Questions & Answers

  • Q: What is a Nurse Practitioner?
    Answer:

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are Registered Nurses with graduate-level preparation which extends their scope of practice to assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe medication, order and interpret diagnostic tests and lab work, and make referrals to specialists within their autonomous and legislated scope of practice. They provide evidence-based care by integrating their knowledge, skills and clinical practice guidelines with patient-centred care.

  • Q: Why is there a fee for Nurse Practitioner medical services?
    Answer:

Currently there is no insured healthcare billing option for nurse practitioners to be remunerated by the government for their medical services as physicians do. Similar to other healthcare professionals who provide uninsured healthcare services (like chiropractors, physiotherapists, dentists, and others) some 3rd party private insurance companies may provide coverage for healthcare professionals like Nurse Practitioners. Please check if your private insurance benefits will provide you with this coverage.

  • Q: If I have private insurance coverage do I need to pay upfront?
    Answer

Pure Aura Medical and Aesthetics utilizes Telus Health eClaims service to directly bill your private insurance company for medical services only. Aesthetics services are considered elective procedures and are not covered by private insurance. Every private insurance company has different levels of coverage for healthcare expenses and may or may not have deductibles. This is why it is recommended for you to check what level of coverage you are eligible for. Patients are responsible for paying any portion of fees not covered by their private insurance.
